Evanston Virtual High School

A distance education program offered by Uinta County School District #1

Method(s) of course procurement

The program will use self-created course content. The development process can be summarized as follows: the design team will outline the core scope and sequence which will be aligned to state standards. The course objectives will be identified and a course timeline will be created. Milestones will be generated from the course objectives. Course content will be developed by a team which will consist of one high school teacher per content area being used in the Evanston Virtual High School program. An instructional design specialist will oversee and monitor the development of the courses to assure the courses are developed according to his established instructional design methodologies.

New courses will be subject to a review process which will consist of a pre-test post-test control group design. Students will be given an assessment at the beginning of the course and the assessment will be repeated upon completion of the course. The degree of learning will be compared to students who take the equivalent course in a traditional high school settings. New courses will also be peer reviewed by subject matter teachers for content validity and sufficient rigor as defined by Uinta County School District #1.

Course evaluation and improvement

Our highly qualified teachers are constantly engaged in evaluating courses to maintain quality. Annually a review committee will evaluate our curriculum. The committee considers midcourse and final student/community survey results, completion rates and postgraduate interview data to determine how well the existing curriculum is meeting the needs of our students. When the need is indicated by the evidence, course curricula are rewritten, reorganized or replaced.

All of our courses have been aligned to Wyoming content standards. They also meet national online course standards identified by the North American Council for Online Learning, (NACOL). Course completion, grades, and other student feedback are monitored to identify areas of concern. Performance on PAWS is compared to course achievement to verify the appropriate rigor of the courses
